Content Strategy & Web Concept for a Competitive Proposal to a Major Norwegian Publisher
Overview
Developed content strategy, audience personas and a web concept as part of a competitive proposal to Gyldendal Norsk Forlag, Norway's largest publishing house, for migrating its website to EPIServer. This was proposal work; the available records do not confirm the project was ultimately commissioned or delivered.
The Challenge
Gyldendal Norsk Forlag was running a competitive process to replace its ageing eZPublish website (100,000-150,000 monthly visits) with a new EPIServer platform spanning its Litteratur, Akademisk, Undervisning and Rettsdata imprints, integrated with SAP and Bokbasen. Making Waves was one of the vendors invited to submit a proposal.
What We Propose
Named as Content Advisor responsible for content analysis and setup, Russell ran internal workshops that produced eight detailed, named audience personas, including a law-professor persona built specifically for the Akademisk imprint, and imprint-specific web strategies with SMART goals such as halving lecturer support enquiries. This fed into the written proposal: a phased five-template build on the latest EPIServer, responsive design, Azure hosting, and content migration from eZPublish, with a named project team and an 850-1,100 hour estimate.
Why It Matters
This is included as an example of Russell's proposal and content-strategy work rather than a delivered project. The personas and imprint strategies were genuinely thorough and audience-evidenced, not generic pitch boilerplate, even though the available records don't confirm the proposal was signed or the migration carried out.
This was proposal work developed for a competitive pitch to Gyldendal Norsk Forlag while Russell was employed at Making Waves. Any public information referenced here is used for identification and does not imply endorsement.

Dries Buytaert: The cost of running multiple CMS platforms
Dries Buytaert argues that running multiple CMS platforms creates hidden operational costs through duplicated integrations, security policies, expertise, and governance. He proposes standardizing on Drupal while using different operating models—SaaS (Acquia Source) for speed and PaaS (Acquia Cloud) for control—to preserve flexibility while reducing fragmentation.
