Technical Search Architecture for an International Education Marketplace

International Education Marketplace

Overview

Audited search architecture across two global education-marketplace sites, analysing more than 385,000 discovered URLs to expose and quantify platform-level barriers to international search visibility.

Who This Is For

Technology companies, financial services firms, manufacturers, or large B2B organisations with 1,000-20,000+ employees managing significant volumes of content across internal and external digital channels. Typically operating a CMS or knowledge management system where content is difficult to find, poorly categorised, and inconsistently tagged.

The Challenge

The client operated two large international education-marketplace sites connecting prospective students with degree programmes worldwide. Search visibility across these markets and languages depended on technical foundations, indexability, canonical tags, pagination, hreflang, redirects, metadata and structured data, that had never been audited at scale, leaving the scope and cost of any problems unquantified.

What We Propose

Russell audited the search architecture across both marketplaces while at Making Waves/NoA, using full-site crawls to analyse more than 385,000 discovered URLs. The audit identified and quantified platform-level barriers across indexability, canonical tags, pagination, hreflang implementation, redirect chains, metadata and structured data, creating a single prioritised evidence base rather than a list of anecdotal issues.

Why It Matters

Evidence over guesswork - findings quantified against the full URL inventory, not a sample, so priorities could be ranked by actual scale. Platform-level view - problems traced to their structural cause, templates, routing, hreflang configuration, rather than fixed page by page. A foundation for international visibility - the same content-as-system thinking behind ECM.DEV's approach today, treating search architecture as maintained infrastructure across markets and languages.
